In celebration of World Creativity and Innovation Day, Ossama Ghanem, our Senior Tech Lead and OutSystems Trainer, partnered with OutSystems to showcase the capabilities of the platform and how it can enable creativity and innovation within the context of low-code software development. He built an online version of the UNO game in OutSystems, strictly using out-of-the-box components… no custom code.
For those unfamiliar with OutSystems, it is a low-code platform that allows developers to quickly create, deploy, and manage custom applications. Its approach allows developers to create applications with minimal coding knowledge, using drag-and-drop components and pre-built modules.
As a long-time advocate of OutSystems, Ossama has always been impressed with the platform’s enterprise-grade case studies, primarily shining in one key aspect: time to market. However, he has always been intrigued by the possibilities that the platform can offer and wanted to take it a step further. With OutSystems UNO, he was able to satisfy his curiosity.
“The idea initially originated from a challenge to see what was possible with the platform. It didn’t take long for me to realise how rewarding this journey can be. Seeing the different pieces of the puzzle fall seamlessly into place, whether that’s the unique user interface, the gameplay animations, and even the rules engine, made this experience extremely satisfying.”
OutSystems UNO is a complete reconstruction of the UNO card game we all know and love, including the game’s decision engine, gameplay mechanics, contextual CPU opponents, and user interface. Only existing OutSystems components were used to build the entire game, with no coding whatsoever. Ossama used no external JS libraries, external style guides, or any integrations. In other words, the game is 100% OutSystems.
Ossama enjoyed building OutSystems UNO, and this experience has further elevated his view of the platform to a whole new level. It was a demonstration of just how far you can push the OutSystems platform and the creative and innovative possibilities that it can offer.
This is an example of how outSystems’ approach can be a game-changer for businesses looking to develop applications quickly and efficiently.
My advice would be to experiment and try new things. OutSystems provides a flexible and robust platform that rewards experimentation and innovation. Also, collaborate with others in the community, whether that’s through forums, social media or user groups.
