One of our customers recently teamed up with PhoenixDX for a two-day Innovation Event designed to upskill its internal developers and create practical solutions using the OutSystems platform.
The Backdrop: A vision for digital innovation
This hands-on event marked another step in our customer’s ongoing digital transformation, showcasing the potential of technology to improve operations and public services. Earlier this year, the organisation commenced core systems development on OutSystems as a pillar platform for its digital transformation strategy. Known for its low-code capabilities, the platform was chosen to speed up innovation across its operations and administration. PhoenixDX, with years of experience and expertise in mission-critical systems, was the key partner in supporting this journey with OutSystems. With a growing list of projects to tackle, internal team enablement was a priority for the organisation. An Innovation Event proved an ideal strategy to quickly bring their development team up to speed on the OutSystems platform.
The Challenge: Building new solutions
PhoenixDX, boasting six OutSystems MVPs and deep experience delivering OutSystems projects across APAC, was ideally positioned to lead the event. The organisation’s goals were clear: rapidly upskill their team and begin work on two new critical frontline applications.
The event brought together a cross-functional group of staff, including eight developers, two testers, a business analyst, and a solution architect. They worked in two teams under the guidance of PhoenixDX mentors, including MVP Ossama Ghanem and Solution Architect Samuel Wilson.
The Outcome: Prototypes with real-world impact
In just two days, the teams built working prototypes for both applications. These were fully responsive across web and mobile, making them accessible to the back office and staff on the go. The apps featured essential elements like single-sign-on, management dashboards, and integration with business APIs—tools that will boost efficiency in operations. At the end of the event, the teams presented their work to the senior management, complete with live demos showing the apps in action and detailing the next steps for further development.
The Experience: Hands-on learning for developers
For many of our customers’ developers, the Innovation Event was an eye-opener. Working on real-world problems rather than scripted scenarios allowed the teams to fully immerse themselves in the OutSystems platform and understand its capabilities in a practical, hands-on environment.
“We got so much deeper into OutSystems functionality by solving real problems,” one participant shared, “rather than just sitting at our desks following tutorials. It’s really accelerated my learning.”
Another developer admitted they were initially sceptical: “I had reservations, but from this event, I can see how much can be done with OutSystems compared to other low-code platforms.”
The Innovation Event was about more than technical skills. It fostered collaboration and innovation, allowing team members to build confidence in the platform and see firsthand how it could address the organisation’s needs.
Moving Forward: Scaling Digital Transformation
As a result of the Innovation Event, their IT team is now better equipped to tackle the backlog of projects in its digital transformation plan. The newly upskilled team is ready to take on more parallel initiatives, using the OutSystems platform to accelerate development and roll out more digital solutions to support frontline operations.
The Innovation Event highlighted the value of hands-on learning in driving digital innovation.
Our customer is now well-positioned to scale its efforts, bringing new solutions to life that will support the field agents on the ground and improve outcomes for the public they serve.
